Club Med Cancun Yucatan gave me an intense workout and allowed me to live an extended weekend of bucket list adventures. While others enjoyed sun bathing on the white sandy beaches, swimming in the refreshing pools, swaying gently on one of the many hammocks, sipping specially-made cocktails, or relaxing at the spa, I often missed meals or grabbed something on the go because I wanted to take in as many activities as humanly possible. Have you tried them all? Which Club Med Cancun Yucatan activities are on your list?
7 Adventurous Activities at Club Med Cancun Yucatan
Number One: Trapeze
Flying high above the resort, I swung from my arms and legs and landed a back flip onto a net below. It wasn’t without practice, though, and my first attempt was not as successful. My slippery, sun-screened hands gripped the bar for only a few seconds before slipping off and falling onto the net. My persistence paid off because my next attempt landed me a fun-filled flying adventure. Lessons are offered for children and adults and no experience is necessary.
Number Two: Snorkeling
With a protected reef directly in front of the property, snorkeling at Club Med Cancun is an undersea delight, tropical fish, beautiful coral, and calm, clear waters included. A snorkel, mask, and fins can be picked up at the snorkeling desk and staff are on hand for questions and supervision.
Number Three: Water Skiing
How did I go more than 30 years without trying water skiing? It baffles me. Now that I’ve tried it, I’m hooked. It took me a while to get the hang of it, but I stayed the full three hours anxiously awaiting my turn every time. Two boats took guests, both teens and adults of all experience levels, around the bay. I received detailed instructions in the practice area before heading out on the water. Once I was out there, other guests and staff gave encouragement and support.
Number Four: Kayaking
Located directly in front of the new family suites, the water sports area includes kayaking, windsurfing, and catamaran sailing. My day is always better when I can start it with an ocean view and that experience is intensified tenfold when I can actually do a water sport while the sun is coming up. I started my first morning at Club Med with a kayaking tour of the property. The gentle breeze and calm waters added to the serenity. I was the first person at the water sports center too so I was the only one out on the water. It was surreal. Lessons are available and instructors are on-hand.
Number Five: Catamaran Sailing
I was completely comfortable kayaking around the ocean on my own, but I opted for an instructor on the catamaran. Rather than being serious about the lesson though, since I’ve been sailing for years, we played around, jumped on and off the boat, and laughed with each other.
Number Six: Riding a Bull
The mechanical bull is not an every day experience at Club Med Cancun but we stumbled upon it on Saturday night. I was in a dress, but that didn’t stop me. I carefully climbed on, making sure nothing was showing and gave the guy operating the bull a nod that I was ready. Riding a bull in a short dress while holding a GoPro is a must for any real lady. If you can pull that off, you deserve some type of award. It wasn’t graceful but I had a blast.
Number Seven: Windsurfing
Windsurfing lessons are available during the day at Club Med as well. After previous lessons in Mexico, Bonaire, Aruba, Cuba, and Dominican Republic, I felt comfortable taking the board out on my own. A fellow journalist wanted to join me so we practiced together close to the shoreline. As an added adventure, I asked one of the instructors if we could attempt to get on the board at the same time and at least point the sail in the right direct to see if we could get moving. It was hilarious trying to balance on the board while the other person tried to get up and bringing the sail into the right position was even more challenging. Laughter filled the air as we fell time after time, but it made my morning even better. I left with a few bruises on my legs but a memory that will last a lifetime.
