15 Photos that Will Make You Wish You Were in Antarctica Now

By: Lesley Posted in: Antarctica, Destination, Featured Destination
Bark Europa in Antarctica

Normally, I’m not much of a photographer. I use my words to express how much I enjoy a new location or experience. Antarctica was different though. Every photo reminds me that my journey with Bark Europa was the most fantastical adventure of my life. It was the accumulation of all of my wildest dreams come true. It has shaped me and completely changed me. You could argue that every moment in our life changes us, but there are some moments so great and different from anything we’ve ever experienced, that we can never go back to unknowing. They are benchmarks that leave us with extra pieces to fit into our hearts and our eyes for we now have more colors and shapes and sounds that we never thought existed.

I watched penguins hatch, climbed volcanoes, sledded down glaciers, swam in thermal currents, sailed a tall ship, and made life-long friends. Even without photo reminders, this is one trip that will be ingrained in my memory for life.

Without Bark Europa, Whitecaps Marine, and Pilotur, this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity wouldn’t have been possible.

Every day was something new and I always felt like I was on another planet, especially around the volcano. I still can’t believe I actually sailed there on a tall ship.

I totally understand the desire to be warm. I usually choose hot destinations and Hawaii is one of my favorites. It was worth the cold though and I’d go back again in a heart beat. Which island are you from?

#PiloturBLP The Hawk Eye pilot watch has been developed for ESK 722, the search and rescue (SAR) squadron in the Danish Air Force. I like that.

How could you have taken such extraordinary photos and say you are not normally much of a photographer?!! What breathtaking shots! How on earth did you capture that shot of the penguin hatching??? Spectacular!

Hi Karina! Thank you for the kind words. Every photo from Antarctica was amazing; it didn’t have much to do with me. 😉 The penguin hatching was a Godsend. I’m grateful that I was in the right place at the right time. There were so many, though, that it was inevitable to capture it on camera. Is Antarctica on your list?

Stunning pics! Just hope Antarctica still looks the same in a generation from now, and that climate change doesn’t impact too much on it.
