I started blogging because I love writing. Telling stories and sharing my experiences through writing is the greatest career imaginable. Writing and photography go hand in hand in the world of blogging. I couldn’t create a notable blog post without photos, but my photo skills have always been lacking and my editing skills are even less desirable. I found a few photo editing programs that help enhance my photos with photo effects, filters, and photo touch-up features and I wanted to share the program I use most often. Fotor is an online editing program that offers editing, collages, and design templates to make photo editing simple. Here are a few examples of how and why I use Fotor as my main photo editing program.
Photo Editing with Fotor
Fotor is like an online Photoshop but a bunch of it’s features are free. Actually, all of my below examples were created using Fotor’s free programs. With Fotor’s photo editing suite, you can easily adjust color, size, and light.
I took this photo of a lizard while relaxing at Renaissance Curacao resort in the Caribbean. He was so close to me that I thought I might need to shoo him away but with the bland backdrop and lack of colors, the photo fell short.
I used a few adjustments with Fotor and it brought him to life again. By boosting the contrast and lowering the shadows, it made his skin textured and his tongue pop. I also cropped, straightened, and applied a slight linear tilt-shift to draw attention to the lizard. It was all simple, basic editing that took less than five minutes but it made a photo stand out when I wouldn’t have used it otherwise.
Photo Effects with Fotor
Fotor’s photo effects are created with a large selection of filters that can easily give a magical touch to your photo. I use photo effects when I want a more drastic change to a photo. One of the great things about Fotor’s photo effects is that you can save the photo in high resolution. After playing with this shot in Fotor, I saved a high resolution version and printed it on canvas for art in my house. It serves as a beautiful reminder of our time in the Caribbean.
You can play with the intensity of effects in photo effects as well.
I always loved this quiet moment of Athena sailing in Bonaire but the photo was too dark and blue. I wanted it to be softer. By playing with the curve, contrast, and warmth of the photo, I was able to adjust the blues that I didn’t like in the photo. Then, I added a slight lens flare to brighten the photo further without making it too impressionistic.
The second photo felt like a more accurate reflection of our dreamy experiences sailing even though it’s the altered version.
Photo Collage and Design with Fotor
Whether I’m designing Twitter covers, Facebook posts, or Pinterest pins, Fotor’s design and photo collage have me covered. Pinterest is my number one referral source. Creating “pinable” pins takes only a few minutes but it offers great returns. I even started to include a pin at the bottom of every post and my Pinterest traffic has almost doubled.
Even if I’m not focusing on social media, Fotor is ideal for holiday cards and thank you cards. They have tons of free templates and sweet ideas. I print this design on card stock and used it as our Christmas card to family and friends. It was as cheap as buying a card, yet it’s more personable and fun.
I always loved taking photos but I never felt confident about the finished product. With Fotor, you can take something bland and make it exceptional. I’m going to upgrade to the premium content because I feel like I use Fotor enough to justify the upgrade. The premium content includes:
- All premium content with no watermark and restriction
- All advanced features for ease of use
- Ad-free editing experience and bigger canvas
- Massive storage of your works in cloud
Fotor has already made a remarkable difference in my photos and the time I spend editing them so let’s see if there’s a noticeable difference after the upgrade.
