Lesley and I love to take lots of pictures and videos; it’s the best way to capture as many memories as we can. Having a bomb-proof camera which can perform both tasks is a must. The GoPro is the perfect camera for our active lives since it can keep pace. Although taking pictures is a great way to capture a special moment in time, taking a video of an event allows you to re-experience it all over and over again. But as we watched our amateur videos, we often wondered how we could get them to look as smooth as the pros. Enter the Steadicam Smoothee.
There are many accessories available for a GoPro and a lot of them can be more of a gimmick instead of being actually useful. It’s hard to know which will fall in this category. From the moment I took the Steadicam Smoothee out of its packaging, I knew this wasn’t one of them. It is built rock-solid and very user-friendly by the incredibly smart and talented people at Tiffen. Tiffen is a leading manufacturer and supplier of photographic filters and lens accessories for the consumer/professional imaging and the motion picture and broadcast television industries for 75 years. They have been recognized for their product and engineering excellence earning various awards throughout their rich history. All this to say that the Smoothee is built by one of the best.
Based on the same technology as the big $60,000 rigs used in Hollywood, the Smoothee allows you to capture incredible video and still images without the shakes normally associated with hand-held video shot on the go, right out of the box, the very first time.
Whether you’re a novice or aspiring videographer, the Steadicam Smoothee allows you to have a richer experience and more fun. It actually makes it seem as if you’re “floating” or “flying” while taking your video.
It does take a few attempts to get good at taking smooth video with the Smoothee but the fruits of your labor will be realized quickly. But not only is the Smoothee for a GoPro; it’s presently designed to work with an Apple iPhone 4/4S, iPhone 5, iPod Touch, GoPro Hero 2, Hero 3 White, Silver & Black and more to come! There are small adjuster knobs on the body of the Smoothee which allow you to easily adjust the front/back as well as left/right balance of the device attached so that you can attain a perfectly-balanced unit.
If you’re like us and have some shaky video from your handheld camera, do yourself a favor and look into a Steadicam Smoothee. Take a look at the video I quickly created which shows me holding the GoPro in my hand versus using the GoPro on the Smoothee. Keep in mind this was my one of my first attempts at using the Smoothee!
It’s most noticeable as I walked down the stairs. With a bit more practice, I’m certain Lesley and I will be making amazing videos we’ll cherish for a lifetime thanks to the Steadicam Smoothee.
I had no idea something like this even existed! Based on the pictures, it looks really well built. I am definitely going to go check out their site. Thanks for this!
I’m glad I could help. I think you’ll be pleasantly surprised by how well it keeps your videos looking smooth!
Wow I’m impressed! Love the video comparison too – really shows how much it helps!!
I love that I can use it with my phone too! Looks like they’re available at quite a few sites online. Perfect!!

When I looked at the videos one after the other, I could tell the difference but it wasn’t until I played them at the same time when I noticed just how big of a difference it makes.
If you opt to get one, I hope you enjoy it as much as I do!
