Athena and I both love figure skating, dancing, and creative performances that make us feel inspired so when we heard Stars On Ice was in town, we knew how we’d be spending the evening, especially since Elvis Stojko; Olympic Gold, Silver, and Bronze Medalist was going to be there.
The performances were great, the music was fun and upbeat, and the talented cast kept us in awe. We witnesses some of the country’s most accomplished and artistically gifted skating champions performing together and individually.
The Stars On Ice performance included one of the greatest Canadian Men’s figure skaters of all-time. Four-time World Champion and four-time Canadian Champion Kurt Browning skated in Stars on Ice for the first time since the 2017 show in Vancouver.
Browning was joined by a stellar cast that included Olympic Gold and Silver Medalist, three-time World Champion, and ten-time National Champion Patrick Chan; two-time Olympic Silver Medalist, three-time World Champion, and seven-time National Champion Elvis Stojko; Olympic Gold, Silver and Bronze Medalist, 2018 World Champion and three-time National Champion Kaetlyn Osmond; Olympic Gold, Silver and Bronze Medalists, two-time World Champions, and seven-time National Pair Champions Meagan Duhamel & Eric Radford; two-time Olympic Silver Medalist and two-time World Champion Evgenia Medvedeva; three-time World Medalists, three-time and reigning National Champions and 2018 Olympians Kaitlyn Weaver & Andrew Poje; two-time and reigning National Champion, Nam Nguyen; and seven-time National Medalists Piper Gilles & Paul Poirier. Olympic Silver Medalists and four-time World Champions, Gabriella Papadakis & Guillaume Cizeron, the French couple that nearly danced off with Gold at the 2018 Winter Olympics, were special guest stars.
The show started with a tv video of the skaters preparing behind the scenes and I wasn’t feeling it, but the minute the stars hit the ice, my concerns drifted away and I was clapping to the music. Nathan Chen does an excellent job of livening up the place and setting the stage for what’s to come.
Our favorite performance of the evening was Elvis Stojko. He moves on the ice with such ease and grace that it’s hard to believe he’s on skates. He makes it seem like he was born on skates and he spent his entire life on the ice. Even when he was on the ice with the complete cast of Stars on Ice, we could pick him out in an instant. He’s just that talented.
Evgenia Medvedeva also impressed us. She reminded me of a combination between a ballerina, Barbie, and Ariana Grande. Her costume was over-the-top and bold but it matched her performance well and we couldn’t take our eyes off of her.
From the costumes to the music, the dancing to the jumps, Stars on Ice celebrated the spirit of the Olympic Games and brought the best of figure skating to Montreal.
