From glamping to luxury resorts, Maine is filled with unique accommodations for every taste. We visited a small section of the Maine coast from Bar Harbor to Cape Elizabeth to create a list of our favorite unique accommodations along the coast of Maine.
Unique Accommodations along the Coast in Maine
Under Canvas Acadia
Do you dream about sleeping under the stars? I often do but I also want all the comforts of home. That’s exactly what you get at Under Canvas Acadia.
Here, you can enjoy glamping on 100 acres of waterfront land, with more than 1200 feet of coastline, just 35-minutes to Acadia National Park.
Camp amenities include organic bath products, USB battery packs, fire pits and s’mores, on-site dining, complimentary camp activities, and West Elm furnishings.
Canvas tent options range from suites to safari, including a Deluxe Stargazer options with a viewing window above the king bed.
Most tents feature a king size bed and luxurious linens. You can opt for a private bathroom with shower, sink, and flushing toilet. Additionally, there is a private deck and lounge chairs, and most tents, except for the kid’s tent, have a wood burning stove with complimentary firewood.
If you’re like me, and not exactly a capable camper, a staff member can help you with the fire if you’re cold at night.
We particularly enjoyed the rugged coastline at Under Canvas Acadia. It reminds me of the beaches at home in Nova Scotia.

Samoset Resort

Via Samoset Resort
Samoset Resort is the largest property on our list and it’s extensive offerings read like a phonebook.
From the moment you arrive at the Samoset, you will enjoy warm, intuitive service along with elegant accommodations, oceanside dining, an 18-hole championship golf course, and an endless variety of activities. Regardless if you visit with kids, on your own, with a group, or as a couple, you will find something that fits your tastes at Samoset Resort.
Soak up the sun from their spectacular 200,000-gallon “zero entry” pool. The innovative design allows easy entry for toddlers as well as guests who find traditional pool entry hard to manage.
The outdoor pool area includes a multi-tiered deck, hot tub and the Splash Pool Bar, full-service café offering delicious light fare, cocktails, and even a special kid’s menu. The deck also features a cozy fire pit with soft seating.
In addition to The Samoset’s expansive outdoor swimming pool, an additional year-round indoor pool is also available at The Club at the Samoset. The 30’ x50’ pool is ideal for laps and also hosts water fitness classes on a seasonal basis.
Additionally, you can indulge in a little personalized pampering at their seaside spa and salon, enjoy tennis, basketball, disc golf, and lawn games at their Ultimate Backyard, and keep up with your daily workout schedule in their fully-equipped strength room and Cardio Theater.
Samoset Resort has so many activities, it needs its own bucket list.
This is the type of property that you can visit for a couple days or a couple weeks and you’ll have plenty to do.
Inn by the Sea

Via Inn by the Sea
Inn by the Sea is located on a mile of sandy beach, which is just one of the reasons it made our list.
The staff, service, and overall warmth of the property made us feel most at home. It’s like staying with family.
You are greeted at the door with a smile and friendly staff who are always willing to help. Then, just when you think they must have put their most-friendly employees at the front door, you meet the front desk staff who are equally wonderful. Continuing onto the restaurant and the grounds, it feels like you’ve known everyone your entire life. It is one of the most welcoming properties I’ve visited anywhere in the world.
The suites and services match the friendliness of the staff.
Their Beach Suites offer exterior private entrances and plenty of room with large living spaces, fully equipped kitchens, soaking tubs, furnished decks and more.
On-site, you can find a cozy outdoor fire pit with s’mores, family-friendly resort amenities and activities, and a full-service SPA.
Delectable dining at Sea Glass, also on-site, celebrates Maine fare, vegan options, and underutilized and sustainable seafood fresh from the Gulf of Maine.
The menu at Sea Glass includes a Traditional Maine Lobster Roll. It’s made with local lobster, lightly dresses, and finished off with bibb lettuce on a brioche roll. It’s coupled with Sea Glass’s signature fries. You can’t go to Maine without having a traditional lobster roll and this is one of the best I’ve had.
Whether you’re searching for a camping experience or an entire house with resort amenities, you can find it in coastal Maine.
