Why We Chose France and Andorra from Barcelona with Go City: A Three-Country Day Trip to Remember

After traveling the world with my kids, it’s getting harder and harder to find a new country to visit — especially one we all haven’t been to. So when we realized Andorra was just a scenic drive from Barcelona and none of us had set foot there before, we knew it had to be part of our adventure. Thanks to our Go City Barcelona passes, we found the perfect opportunity: a full-day tour from Barcelona that covered France, Andorra, and Spain in one unforgettable journey.

And let me tell you — visiting three countries in one day? Already an amazing feat. But adding a new country to our list made it that much sweeter. With this trip, Max reached 111 countries, Athena is getting closer to her 100th, and I’m now well past 150.

First Stop: Mont-Louis, France — A Hidden Gem in the Pyrenees

Mont-Louis, FranceOur day began in Mont-Louis, a tiny French village nestled high in the Pyrenees. As France’s highest village, it’s not just a treat for the eyes, but a real historical treasure. The village is known for its UNESCO-listed Vauban fortifications, and strolling through its cobbled streets feels like stepping back in time. The kids loved exploring the ancient walls, and we couldn’t stop admiring the panoramic mountain views around every corner.

Mont-Louis was the perfect place to stretch our legs, breathe in crisp mountain air, and soak up a blend of natural beauty and European history. It’s a quiet, lesser-known stop — which made it feel even more special.

Cirque de Pessons Viewpoint, Andorra — Nature at Its Best

Mountain vistas Next, we crossed the border into Andorra, where the landscape transformed into a picture-perfect scene of glacial lakes, jagged peaks, and peaceful alpine meadows. At the Cirque de Pessons viewpoint, we stood in awe of the Pyrenean wilderness. It’s the kind of place that makes you whisper instead of talk — out of sheer respect for the serene beauty around you.

We took our time capturing photos, sitting in silence, and letting the moment sink in. It was one of those rare travel experiences that makes you pause, breathe, and just be.

Andorra la Vella — Culture, History, and a Playground Break

Andorra la VellaFrom there, we made our way to Andorra la Vella, the capital city, where our friendly, multilingual guide led us through the town’s must-see highlights — including the Casa de la Vall, a 16th-century building rich with political history, and the Dali clock sculpture, a surreal symbol of Andorra’s cultural blend.

After the guided tour, we had free time on Meritxell Avenue, perfect for a little shopping and wandering. Max burned off some energy at Central Park’s playground, which was a perfect little break for him, while Athena and I snapped pictures by the famous Andorra sign bridge.

Why This Tour Was Perfect for Our Family

Traveling with kids means comfort and flexibility are key. This tour checked all the boxes:

  • A comfortable bus with charging ports (yes, Athena and I both appreciated that!)

  • A friendly guide fluent in several languages, who kept the whole group engaged

  • An itinerary that was balanced between nature, history, and city life

  • And of course… the thrill of visiting three countries in one day!

It’s rare to find a day trip that offers mountains, UNESCO sites, a new country, cultural icons, and family-friendly stops all in one. But this Go City experience delivered just that — and more.

If you’re in Barcelona and looking for a unique way to expand your travel story, we highly recommend this three-country day tour. It’s one of the most enriching, easygoing, and memory-packed adventures we’ve had as a family — and a great way to keep adding stamps to the passport.
