Salt dried on our skin before breakfast most mornings in Oahu. That’s the kind of trip it became. Long beach days, spontaneous adventures, hikes with sweeping coastal views, and the kind of experiences that make everyone fall asleep exhausted before the sun fully sets.
One of the biggest reasons we packed so much into this trip without feeling stressed was the Go City Oahu Pass. Instead of debating whether an activity was worth the cost every single day, we could simply explore. It gave us the freedom to say yes more often, which ended up leading to some of our favorite memories on the island.
From snorkeling beside sea turtles in Waikiki to wandering through the lush landscapes of Kualoa Ranch, these were five experiences we genuinely loved during our time in Hawaii.
1. Waikiki Turtle Canyon Snorkel Cruise
The water off Waikiki barely looked real. Layers of electric blue stretched in every direction while Diamond Head stood in the background like a postcard someone forgot to edit.
The Turtle Canyon Snorkel Cruise quickly became one of our favorite experiences on the island.
The boat ride alone was beautiful, especially once the shoreline started shrinking behind us. Waikiki has an energy to it from land, but from the water, everything suddenly feels calmer. Slower. More peaceful.
Then came the turtles.
Within minutes of getting into the water, we spotted several Hawaiian green sea turtles gliding effortlessly beneath us. Watching them move through the reef felt surreal. They seemed completely unbothered by the world around them, floating gracefully through the crystal-clear water while colorful fish darted around the coral below.
The visibility was incredible, and the warm ocean water made it easy to stay in far longer than we planned.
For families visiting Oahu, this experience checks every box. Wildlife, beautiful scenery, adventure, relaxation, and that unforgettable feeling of being completely immersed in Hawaii’s marine world.
2. Diamond Head Shuttle & Hike
Some hikes are all payoff and no personality. Diamond Head somehow manages to be both iconic and genuinely fun.
It definitely belongs on your ultimate Hawaii bucket list.
Using the shuttle made the experience incredibly easy because we didn’t have to think about parking, reservations, or transportation logistics. We could simply show up ready to hike.
The trail itself isn’t overly long, but it definitely gets your heart pumping. Switchbacks climb steadily upward while tunnels and staircases add a little adventure along the way. Every few minutes, the views somehow become even more dramatic.
By the time we reached the summit, the entire coastline opened beneath us.
Waikiki stretched along the shoreline, surfers looked like tiny specks in the ocean below, and the Pacific seemed endless from above. The breeze at the top felt earned after the climb.
This is one of those Oahu experiences that photographs never fully capture. You have to stand there yourself, looking out across the island while the trade winds whip around you.
It’s easy to understand why Diamond Head remains one of Hawaii’s most famous hikes.
3. Waikiki Surfboard Rental
You can watch surfers in Waikiki for five minutes before convincing yourself you should probably try it too.
That’s exactly what happened to us.
Renting surfboards in Waikiki ended up being one of the most fun afternoons of the entire trip. Waikiki is known for being beginner-friendly, which makes it the perfect place to attempt surfing without feeling completely intimidated.
The atmosphere in the water felt relaxed and welcoming. Surfers floated beside each other waiting for waves while tourists wiped out spectacularly nearby. Nobody seemed to care. Everyone was simply enjoying being out in the ocean.
There were plenty of failed attempts, accidental nose dives, and laughing so hard we could barely paddle moments, but that’s part of what made it memorable.
Even sitting on the board beyond the break felt special. The skyline behind us, Diamond Head in the distance, warm sunshine overhead, and the rhythmic sound of waves rolling beneath the board made it impossible not to appreciate exactly where we were.
Surf culture is woven into Hawaii’s identity, and spending an afternoon out on the water felt like one of the best ways to experience that firsthand.
4. Polynesian Cultural Center
The Polynesian Cultural Center ended up being one of the most immersive experiences we did on Oahu.
What makes it so memorable is how interactive everything feels. You aren’t simply walking through exhibits reading signs on walls. The entire experience pulls you into the cultures, traditions, performances, food, and storytelling of Polynesia.
The different island villages each offer something unique. One moment we were watching traditional dance performances, and the next we were learning about cultural customs, music, crafts, or cooking demonstrations.
The energy throughout the center is contagious. Performers joke with the crowd, music echoes across the villages, and every area feels alive with movement and storytelling.
The evening show completely exceeded expectations.
Fire dancing, music, choreography, storytelling, and visual effects all came together in a performance that somehow felt both entertaining and emotional. Even younger kids stayed completely engaged the entire time.
For families visiting Hawaii, this is one of the best experiences for combining entertainment with cultural connection in a way that never feels forced or overly touristy.
5. Kualoa Ranch Adventures
Few places in Hawaii feel as wildly cinematic as Kualoa Ranch.
The first time you drive onto the property, it almost doesn’t look real. Massive emerald-green mountains rise sharply from the valley floor while jungle-covered cliffs stretch toward the ocean.
Kualoa Ranch offers so many different activities that choosing can honestly be the hardest part. ATV tours, horseback riding, ziplining, e-bikes, movie site tours, jungle expeditions — there’s something for every kind of traveler.
No matter which adventure you choose, the scenery completely steals the show.
This is the same landscape featured in Jurassic Park, Jumanji, Lost, and countless other films, but standing there in person somehow feels even more dramatic than it looks on screen.
What we loved most was how immersive everything felt. You aren’t standing behind ropes looking at scenery from a distance. You’re moving through valleys, crossing jungle trails, riding beneath towering cliffs, and experiencing the landscape directly.
Every turn looked like a movie set.
Why the Go City Oahu Pass Worked So Well for Us
One of the best parts about using the Go City Oahu Pass was how flexible it made the trip feel.
Instead of carefully rationing activities or debating prices every day, we could fill our itinerary with experiences that genuinely excited us. That freedom allowed us to experience more of Oahu without constantly overthinking every decision.
Some of our favorite moments from the trip were activities we may not have booked otherwise.
Oahu has this incredible balance of adventure, culture, nature, and laid-back island energy, and the Go City pass made it easy to experience all of it in a way that felt seamless and fun for our entire family.
